Jeremy Harmer:  Biography  

Jeremy Harmer is a teacher, teacher trainer and author. Among his many books are the classics, The Practice of English Language Teaching (now in its third edition) and How to Teach English, both published by Longman. He is the general editor of the Longman methodology series, and hosts the popular teacher development site ELT Forum (http://www.eltforum.com/).

How do we know what good teaching is? Especially when theorists ­ and sometimes methodologists -disagree so fundamentally about how things are best achieved! Taking the concept of Œnoticing¹ as an example this talk will look at what we can be sure about, and what is more open to interpretation.

The Wonder of a Good Dictionary

Students and teachers have no better classroom and self-study resource than a good dictionary.  This session will first look at ways of getting students to love dictionaries, before demonstrating activities which turn the dictionary into a wonderful and enjoyable resource for vocabulary learning.
