Way Out West Event, Alzaitoonah School for Girls, March 16.

Heather: Phil, have you got any new ideas for things we can do this year?
Phil: Well, I think we should go to Ruwais…

And, so an idea was born!

We contacted Amr AlZarka, the Abu Dhabi Chapter Treasurer who works in the Western Zone, and he put us in contact with Mohammed Mikhamar, a Zone Supervisor in that area. Both were very keen on the idea, as well as being interested in establishing a Chapter in the Western Zone. We then submitted a proposal to the TA Executive Council to seek permission to organise a promotional event to encourage teachers in that area to join TESOL Arabia while Mohammed worked out some practical details locally. To our delight, we gained the support of the Executive Council for the event. In the meantime, Mohammed had made arrangements for the event to be held at Alzaitoonah School for Girls in Marfa, a convenient central location.
Consequently, on March 16, at the crack of dawn, Phil Cozens, Heather Baba and Colin Toms will be setting off to present in uncharted territory 180 kms west of Abu Dhabi - and will literally, in the immortal words of Star Trek's Captain Kirk, 'boldly go where no SIG has gone before'.

TESOL Arabia Conference 2006

There's just over 2 weeks now before the annual TESOL Arabia Conference (29 - 31 March, Dubai). As always, we are looking forward to meeting old friends and SIG members at the event. We will be on duty at the Book Drive Booth periodically, so do stop by the booth and check the schedule to find a time to meet us.
Alternatively, scout around in the lobby coffee shop and you are bound to spot David, Mairi or Heather networking or Phil trying to escape the 'madding crowds'.

Heather and Phil will be presenting on Distance Learning: Ready, Steady, Study, Thursday, 4:30. We hope to see you there. (See the 'Recent Events' page for more details.)
For details about our SIG Speaker and his sessions, see 'Profile'.
