Event:
ILC Coordinator's Forum British Council, Dubai, 7 December, 2 - 4pm
This
is a specialist meeting for ILC coordinators, ILC personnel and those with a specific
background in independent learning. Larger institutions may have several ILC
staff, but often ILCs are the efforts of just one person, so this event offers
the opportunity for ILC personnel from a range of tertiary and secondary educational
institutions to come together and discuss problems, find solutions and exchange
tips, knowledge and advice. It provides a network for current ILC personnel as
well as a chance for new ILC planners to meet people, get insights and information
for their ILC projects. We believe that both novice and veteran ILC personnel
can learn from each others' experiences and possibly support each other in future
ventures. This sharing of expertise and experience might also reduce the possibility
of constant, costly and time-consuming 'reinvention of the wheel'. The focus
of the forthcoming meeting will be research, including presentations by Victor
Lawrence (HCT-ADMC) and Hazel Owen (HCT-DBM). If you are on the staff of an
ILC or involved in an ILC planning project and would like to attend, please contact
hmbaba@yahoo.co.uk for more information.
Also, please feel free to pass on information about this event to ILC or library
personnel in your institution. View
reports of previous ILCCF meetings.
Handbook Update: For the past
year, LI-SIG members and associates from as far away as New Zealand, UK and Japan
have been collaborating on an ILC Handbook for publication early next year via
the TESOL Arabia SIGs Publications initiative. Most of the articles, practical
ILC set-up case-studies and short items on some 200 features of ILCs have now
been received, and we are now entering the editing and formatting phase. We are
on schedule for a launch at TACON 2005.
