Discussion
List If you are not already a member of our list,
please join it by sending a blank email to ilearn-subscribe@topica.com.
Discussions cover CALL, promoting independent learning, motivation,
learning strategies, teaching tips, distance learning, learning styles, issues
in education, e-learning, ILC problems & and much more. It is a place to share
tips, seek solutions to everyday classroom problems, get support and input
for research, and find alternative strategies. Participants are TESOL Arabia
members and IL/C practitioners from all over the world, which helps us gain
a diverse range of opinions and perspectives. (Please
note that some institutional servers will block discussion list messages,
so it is advisable to join the list from a personal rather than work email
address.)

Welcome to the first edition of the Learner
Independence SIG's e-newsletter.
We're the second
SIG to do this, although the original CALL SIG and COLESLAW no longer exist.
The
purpose of this particular newsletter is to introduce LI-SIG to members of TESOL
Arabia who have opted to join our SIG, and provide an update about our events
and ideas for the 2005-2006 academic year.
What
is LI-SIG?
History
The
Learner Independence SIG was established in 2000 by 4 UAEU teachers (Heather Baba,
Paolo Rossetti, George and Geraldine Kershaw) who were seeking ways to develop
professionally and a motive to do so. Paolo experimented with website design and
also created a discussion list, George and Geraldine directed their previous writing
and editing experience into the creation of a newsletter and Heather, who had
been in the UAE and Arab World the longest, began networking madly - and thus,
a SIG was born!
Personnel have changed over the years with Raymond Sheehan
as Editor (2000 - 2004), Jessie Hayden as Webmaster 2001 - 2002, and Alison Curtis,
Adrianna Sutherland and Beth Wallace serving as previous Treasurers.
