Learner Independence SIG Objectives

To promote and support the principles of learner independence
To provide a forum for the discussion of shared concerns and issues
To encourage the sharing and exchange of knowledge, skills and experiences
To offer ideas and practical solutions for implementing varied independent learning schemes
To facilitate networking amongst IL/C practitioners
To support the establishment and upgrading of ILCs
To encourage the development of innovative approaches and materials for IL
To explore how the new technologies can be employed to promote independent learning
To support colleagues around the world who are studying by Distance Learning
To support and participate in research projects in this field

Activities

Visits to ILCs in the region, workshops/events, conference presentations, ILC Certificate Course, newsletters, contributions to the TESOL Arabia Newsletter, e-newsletter, website, email discussion and archived discussions, mailing-list, downloadable resources, inter-institution links, bibliography/book reviews, ILC Coordinators' Forum, case-study reference file/ILC photofiles, distance learning support, action research, ed tech sessions, ILC Handbook (Independent Learning Schemes: A Practical Approach) and other activities, subject to needs/demand.
